Telematics program finder
Side-by-side disclosures from the major carrier telematics programs. Every verified cell quotes the carrier’s own wording with the source link and the date we last checked it; unverified cells show the pending label instead of a guess.
THE SHORT ANSWER
A telematics program is only safe to opt into if you know whether it can raise your rate, how long it tracks, and the max discount it can earn. We put the carrier’s own current disclosures side by side instead of a glossy summary.
The programs
Progressive · Snapshot
Our Progressive review →Progressive’s usage-based program, available as either a mobile app or an OBD-II plug-in device.
Nationwide · SmartRide
Our Nationwide review →Nationwide’s one-way (discount-only) telematics program in most states, with two state-specific carve-outs.
State Farm · Drive Safe & Save
Our State Farm review →State Farm’s telematics program; app with a required Bluetooth beacon, with a guaranteed 10% initial participation discount.
Liberty Mutual · RightTrack
Our Liberty Mutual review →Liberty Mutual’s 90-day telematics program; a 10% enrollment discount up to 30% at renewal, with a non-fulfillment surcharge disclosed by Liberty Mutual itself.
Allstate · Drivewise
Our Allstate review →Allstate’s app-based telematics program; up to 10% initial enrollment discount, with a rate-increase mechanic in every state except New York.
Travelers · IntelliDrive
Our Travelers review →Travelers’s 90-day telematics program; up to 30% at renewal (40% in Nevada; 25% in North Carolina and New Jersey). Two-way, except in DC, MT, NC, and VA.
Root · Root Test Drive
Our Root review →Telematics-first carrier. The 2-to-3-week smartphone test drive sets the quote; ongoing monitoring continues after policy inception and can raise renewal rates. California is the exception.
Also being verified: GEICO DriveEasy, Farmers Signal, USAA SafePilot. Added to the grid as soon as each carrier’s own current disclosure is confirmed. We don’t publish partial cells.
This is an estimate, not a quote. The calculator does arithmetic on the numbers you enter; actual rates depend on carrier underwriting.
How we source this
Each cell traces to one source tier:
- Carrier’s own product page (preferred for every cell). Fetched via WebFetch and quoted verbatim or close to verbatim with the publisher and date recorded.
- Carrier terms-of-service or sample policy when the product page omits a specific disclosure.
We do not use secondary aggregators (Insurance.com, QuoteWizard, etc) as the primary source for any cell on this page. If a cell value is not confirmable from the carrier itself, the tool displays “Not disclosed; verification pending” and the editorial team keeps looking.
The California story: Proposition 103 limits how driving-behavior telematics data can be used in rating, and in practice several large programs are explicitly unavailable in California (see Snapshot and Drive Safe & Save’s own exclusion language). The per-program “State restrictions” cell has the carrier’s own current wording.
Common questions
Why are some cells marked "Not disclosed; verification pending"?
Because we have not yet confirmed those specific disclosures against the carrier’s own current product page. The owner rule for every YesWeSure tool is: no invented numbers. If a cell lacks a verified source, the tool labels it rather than guessing.
Which programs can raise my rate?
This varies by program and sometimes by state inside the same program. SmartRide, for example, is a discount-only program in most states but can decrease the discount at renewal in Virginia and Washington. Snapshot and Drive Safe & Save are two-way programs that can increase premium based on driving behavior. See each row’s "Can it raise your rate?" cell for the carrier’s own current wording.
How do state rules affect telematics?
California’s Proposition 103 rating framework restricts how driving-behavior data can be used in rating; several large programs are explicitly unavailable in California. North Carolina also has its own carve-outs. Use the per-program "State restrictions" cell for the carrier’s own disclosure of where the program is available and how it behaves state-by-state.
Does the tool send any data about me?
No. The table is server-rendered and reads only from our own verified facts files. There are no inputs that collect user data on this page.
